Design Challenge
House chores feel overwhelming for individuals with tight schedules, so they choose to procrastinate these tasks.
the solution
An app which simplifies each chore into easy steps, guides the user and rewards him with in-app currencies for his progress.
Design PROCESS
PERSONA
In order to better understand the user needs, I interviewed Oded, a Computer Science student with a busy lifestyle. Oded explained he struggles to find motivation and attend to the cleaning chores, as it feels intimidating. This led me to the understanding the app should assist the user by setting a timeframe for each chore and guide him through it.
WIREFRAMES
The next step was to translate the persona needs into the app's structure. I began with low-fidelity wireframes, which helped me to define the app's behaviour:
- The app will schedule chores based on the user's availability (synced with the user's calendar and preferences specified during onboarding).
- The app will keep track of the user's progress and present it in the main screen. This motivates the user to continue his progress, and also give him "something to lose" if he misses scheduled chores.

USER JOURNEY
After identifying the persona and wireframing, I created a user journey map to get more insights regarding the user experience. This process highlighted the user should be rewarded upon making progress, which will translate to streaks, badges and level ups.
RESEARCH
Before deciding how the UI should look, I researched and analyzed similar products within the industry, color schemes, behaviors and design references from apps I like.
VISUAL
LANGUAGE
LANGUAGE
The selected visual language reflects the following:
- A game-like appeal, which makes the chores easier and less threatening.
- Sense of comfort, combined with stability and structure.
- Coherent CTAs and flow, allowing the user to invest minimal effort.
REFLECTION
This project allowed me to deep-dive into the design research; I learned how to study my persona, analyze the user's journey and story and conduct a visual research. If I had more time, I would spend more time on the design of the instructions, tying the design language further into the rest of the app.
